About The Breed
Golden Retrievers
Golden Retrievers were developed in Scotland by Sir Dudley Marjoribanks, later known as, Lord Tweedmouth. He cross-bred a Tweed Water Spaniel with a yellow wavy-coated Retriever and introduced other breeds like the Red Setter, Irish Setter, and Bloodhound to create an ideal hunting dog with a gentle mouth and good retrieving abilities. Lord Tweedmouth's aim was to create a superior hunting dog that was athletic, intelligent, and could retrieve game from both water and land without damaging it. as well as being perfect companions. Golden Retriever's were bred to have a friendly disposition, attractive appearance and high level of trainability which makes them a popular breed. They are recognized in the American Kennel Club as a Sporting dog breed and in the United Kennel Club as a Gun Dog breed.
